Matchday Champions’ journey over the last few months has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve gone from football fantasy to match day reality, with a ton of improvements, features and new concepts. Let’s unpack all the big achievements over 2024 so far, including the very latest features and a look ahead at what's to come.
Back in May, we launched our first limited-access Beta in Brazil 🇧🇷 and Indonesia 🇮🇩. After an incredible response, we shifted up a gear with our first live events – Copa Indonesia and Copa Brazil. These were in-game events where Matchday Champions players chose sides and played matches to contribute points towards their team. In a celebration of international football, cards were given out featuring the Indonesian national team footballers (don’t overlook Indonesia, they can play!), along with some elite talent from the emotional home of football, Brazil. A landmark moment in the history of Matchday Champions, giving us a taste of what’s to come on a global scale (👀).
And if that wasn’t enough, the largest live event in the history of Matchday Champions is ready to launch very shortly…
If getting hold of special edition cards featuring some of the best to ever play the beautiful game is on your list, then keep your eyes open this month in Matchday Champions.
Our tremendous art department has overseen the transformation of our officially licensed footballer cards. These cards have evolved from their original designs to a sleeker, more modern look that reflects the dynamic nature of the game. But it’s not just about aesthetics – our footballer cards have become more interactive than ever.
For the first time, players can earn XP on all the cards they own. Earn enough XP and you can level up a Matchday Champions card, awarding it a skill. Those skills have all sorts of gameplay effects, and can be the difference between two evenly matched teams. Plus of course, every time a card levels up, it looks better and better. Skills can have an effect on the individual card, or possibly even other cards. Managing these combinations of skills across your entire squad means a compelling layer of strategy for eager players.
Another feature affecting Matchday cards is Boosts. Through Boosts, a card’s OVR and secondary stats can now be temporarily enhanced based on that footballer’s real-world performances. A great run of form and a standout week on the pitch means your football card could get a stat boost in-game. If you’re new to Matchday Boosts, learn how they can impact your squad here.
This combination of stats and evolving skills make every match more dynamic, adding a new layer of strategy to squad building. No two cards are alike once they start racking up appearances in your line-up!
We get it. You invite in a friend to play Matchday Champions and they feel like your amazing squad is well out of reach. No problem with our newest feature, Talent Scout. Talent Scout offers players another avenue to recruit footballers into their squad, but the ability to gift these cards to other players. In doing so, the player doing the gifting is awarded Talent Scout Tokens. These are the key to attaining the some of the very highest ranked cards in the game. Everyone's a winner!
As we approach the global launch, we’re excited to announce that the 24/25 set of players is on the horizon! On top of all the new and updated cards that the regular Matchday packs will contain, keep your eyes peeled for special edition cards & packs, plus Premium packs that will feature some of the strongest footballers available. We know you’re always looking for an edge, and these new players could be the key to dominating your opponents.

Gems are harder to come by than Coins, but be sure to log in every day to grab your free pair! 💎 You can use them for straight up purchases, and sometime to shortcut having to earn Coins or other tokens.
As we move into global rollout, we’re committed to delivering fresh content at an unprecedented pace. Our Beta phase has been all about listening to players, refining the experience, and testing new ideas. Have no doubt that what you see right now is only a small percentage of what we have planned for the Matchday Champions experience. There’s no way to prepare you all for what’s coming without major spoilers, but if you can imagine it, it’s a possibility.
