Matchday Weekly Update: 27 February 2023

It’s always a busy time at Matchday! There’s so much going on as we continue to build our upcoming games and experiences, ensuring they’re both engaging and accessible for all our users.

To keep you posted on our latest progress, and to build the anticipation that little bit more, here’s some insight into what we’ve been working on lately…

Design

The key focus has been on building a footballer stats model that breaks down athletes’ attributes down to their basic aspects, while also allowing for realistic and varying match results.

We’re at the very, very early stages of this step, but keep an eye out for another blog and an AMA session with lead designer Paul Vauvrey to dig deeper.

Economy

We had a great discussion on this recently, and will have more info for you in the very near future, with questions from our Discord users answered by Economy Designer Ivan Encinas in another blog post. Watch this space!

Art

Check out these awesome concept designs for the first few screens of the player journey on our upcoming mobile journey, put together by Art Lead Pavel Crescenco!

Please note, this may not necessarily represent the final product - but we still wanted to showcase some great visuals!

Community

You might have read about our recent visit from two-time Ballon d’or Feminin winner and Matchday global ambassador Alexia Putellas - if not, make sure you check it out!

We also had our second monthly Matchday Mastermind quiz, again won by Madic (congratulations!), as well as our first Twitch Watch Party, as Sean Mullan and Joan Marcet Vila hosted a live stream alongside Liverpool v Real Madrid. It went well - aside from the result, being Liverpool and Barcelona fans!

As if all that wasn’t enough, make sure you take a look at this TikTok video uploaded by our own Ariana Tan as she ranks some of the world’s best footballers into a top 10 - always a tough test!

Keep up-to-date

We’ll be publishing more of these updates in future so you can get the latest Matchday news, but make sure you’re also joining the conversation with us on social media and Discord. Let us know what you think and what you’re looking forward to!
